Software FMEA (SwFMEA) using SAE 1025

Course Duration: 2 Days

This two-day course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to develop and apply Software Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (SwFMEA) using SAE1025. Participants will learn how to plan, prepare, develop, and maintain SwFMEAs throughout the software development lifecycle while supporting software safety planning and risk reduction activities.

SwFMEA analysis is conducted by a cross-functional software, hardware, and systems engineering team to identify critical failure risk within the program concept which can cause a fault and a failure to meet software requirements/functions and safety goals for functional safety. Software analysis is used in critical and safety and non-safety related programs.

SwFMEAs are not required but can be used in Automotive SPICE® for SWE.1 and SWE.2, Base Practices, and may be used to support the software safety analysis activities described in ISO 26262 Parts 6 and 9 of ISO 26262 (Functional Safety). SwFMEAs led to robust functions, requirements and testing requirements for software.

This course includes hands-on breakout exercises using a running software case study to reinforce each step of the SwFMEA process.
